Any parent having a kid allergic to peanuts would know how difficult their lives could get along with their children’s’. The main reason for any allergy relating to peanuts to develop is by getting into contact with small traces of peanuts. This makes the child to later have severe allergic reactions when peanuts are consumed. Initial sensitizations could occur right from the time of pregnancy. It has been seen that very little amount of peanut protein could cross the placenta. Recent studies have revealed that in case of consuming peanuts or items consuming peanuts during pregnancy could develop the allergy in the child in the later years. This was compared to women who consumed peanuts and those who did not.
It doesn’t mean that you need to totally ignore peanuts at all costs, especially when there are no instances of nut allergies in your family. Factually, peanuts and items with peanut factor are quite beneficial to yourself and your baby. Peanuts are sources of proteins and folic acid, which is significant to a growing baby. Peanut butter or standalone peanuts are said to help in getting rid of morning sickness during the first trimester of pregnancy tenure. Every woman should know that, many women who had no instances of peanut related allergies in their families and hence consumed excessive amounts of peanuts and related food stuff, later delivered babies who were prone to peanut allergies.
Before saying a stern no to jelly sandwiches and peanut butter, ensure that you have a word with your doctor. Your doctor would be helpful in creating a well balanced and healthy eating plan for you for your entire tenure. You would have to mention about your family history of peanuts allergies and matters concerning the same. If any woman is uncomfortable eating peanuts, she need not change her mind about the same as event woman for that matter has the rights to make decisions about her child and her body.

Baby’s Diet: Healthier Choices for Each Stage
Your baby’s diet should be monitored closely to ensure proper nutrition. Your child will experience 3 different feeding patterns during his first 12 months. The primary phase is known as the feeding period. This is when your baby is placed on a liquid diet. The second phase is known as the weaning stage. Your baby is gradually introduced to newer textures, to prepare him for the final stage. This is when he is finally able to eat solid food.
Breastfeeding your baby is advised until he turns 4 months old. If this isn’t possible, you should still keep him on a liquid diet. Milk formula is a viable alternative. Specialized milk formula may be given to babies with particular feeding requirements. Breast milk contains iron, but it still lacks some essential vitamins and minerals, which are necessary for your baby’s development. Additional supplements can be prescribed by your child’s doctor in order to meet his nutritional needs.
As weeks go by, your baby’s tummy should be able to accommodate more milk during each feeding. He can manage to last longer between feedings. Babies who are fed with breast milk tend to get hungrier than those who are fed with milk formula. This is because milk formula is processed more slowly compared to breast milk. Never use skimmed milk and cow’s milk as substitutes. These are ideally given after your child turns 1 year old.
Infants from 4 to 6 months old are gradually introduced to solid food. Not all babies are able to tolerate semi-solid food as soon as they turn 4 months old. You may want to try again after 2 months. His body should be prepared for solid food by this time. Avoid giving him allergy-causing food, such as eggs, soy, nuts and citrus fruits. Whey and soy allergies are common in babies. Monitor your child if you intend to give him these food items.
All other food items should be safe for your baby. Just remember to watch out for common allergy-inducing food. Your child is now capable of digesting fats, protein and complex carbohydrates. Cereals are usually given when weaning a baby into solid food. As his body adjusts, you may try introducing one type of food at a time. Mashed or pureed veggies are recommended instead of fruits. Liquid cereal food can be replaced with multi-grain varieties. Most babies like mashed potatoes, or carrots and peas.
Meat and poultry should be included in your baby’s diet when he turns 7 months old. Choose chicken or lamb, instead of beef or fish. They provide the same amount of protein without the risk of food allergies. Soy, eggs and peanuts are good sources of protein, but should be avoided because they also trigger allergies. Soy milk and honey should also be avoided.
Introduce new textures by making your child’s food coarser than usual. Coarser textures encourage your child to chew. Your baby should be able to handle any food that your family is having. Just be sure to make them less spicy, and cook them longer until they are soft. Cut them up in smaller pieces, or mash them if necessary. Keep in mind that water is very important, regardless of what feeding stage your child is in. Carbonated beverages are discouraged in a baby’s diet.
